Sixth Annual SiarScéal Festival Successfully Concluded

The annual SiarScéal Festival, now in its sixth year, took place over four days from 22-24th March at venues around Roscommon. Even the sun came out for the proceedings, which included poetry readings, music, art, cinema, workshops and much more.

The annual Hanna Greally Literary Awards, which runs in conjunction with the festival, were presented by Richie Farrell and Cllr Eugene Murphy, Roscommon's County Librarian and Mayor respectively. The Mayor also formally launched the SiarScéal Anthology 2012: Roscommon in Reflection, which celebrates five years of work submitted to the Hanna Greally awards. The Mayor paid tribute to the anthology and congratulated all involved. He said it was testimony to the literary talent and an endorsement of Roscommon's standing as a leading heritage county in Ireland.

SiarScéal founder Gwen McNamara Bond officiated over ceremonies. The formal part of the festival was bought to a conclusion on Saturday night with a concert recital by NUI Galway Chamber Orchestra. Those not exhausted by the proceedings took part in an early morning heritage tour the following day, starting out at the Cruachan Aí Centre. This short video showcases the rich diversity of talent that was on display.

The event was also attended by Oscar Duggan of The Manuscript Publisher, who worked with the festival committee to publish the anthology. He also gave a workshop on the theme of self-publishing, which was well-attended and followed by a lively Questions and Answers session.
