Roscommon in Reflection is the title of this year's collection of poetry and prose from SiarScéal, a historical and cultural collective of people who live around the rivers and lakes of the Shannon basin.
It has just been published, in advance of the SiarScéal Festival, which takes place every year over four days in March. The anthology celebrates five years of work submitted to the festival's annual Hanna Greally Literary Competition.
In his Foreword to this anthology, well-known poet, playwright, novelist, Dermot Bolger says: "This is a book that emanates from Roscommon and resonates with the landscape and varied stories of Roscommon, but, like all good writing, it slips free of all boundaries and borders to speak directly to the human heart about the human condition."
The SiarScéal Festival is a historical, literary, bilingual festival hosted annually in County Roscommon, inspired by the culture and heritage of the county's river and lakes, most notable of which are the Suck and the Shannon. The dates for this years festival are Thursday 22nd through to Sunday 25th. Readings, recitals, tours, workshops are all on the agenda.
Also, the winner of the Hanna Greally Literary Award for 2012 will be announced. Closing date for entries has been extended to the end of February. For details about about how to enter, along with information about the festival itself, please visit the SiarScéal Festival website. You can download the Programme of Events here.
